The Pistons official Twitter is reporting that Jonas “Double J” Jerebko has been name the Eastern Conference’s Rookie of the Month for February. Way to go JJ!
The Detroit Pistons’ Jonas Jerebko and New Orleans Hornets’ Darren Collison today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played in February.
Jerebko ranks first among Eastern Conference rookies in field goal percentage (.564) and second in scoring, (10.2 ppg) rebounds, (6.0 rpg) steals (1.0 spg) and blocks (0.54). On Feb. 16, Jerebko scored a team-high 21 points in 21 minutes, in a 108-85 win over Minnesota.
In honor of Double J and and his rookie teammates showing those sophs what’s up last night here’s one of Jonas’ more memorable plays of the year (so far). Fittingly Big Ben co-stars in this one.
Jonas Jerebko of the Pistons has been selected to play in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge and Youth Jam during NBA All-Star Weekend.
The game will be Friday, Feb. 12 at 9 p.m. in Dallas (TNT).
The format is NBA rookies against second-year players. Participants were selected by NBA assistant coaches.
Jerebko is the first Pistons rookie to compete in the event since Zeljko Rebraca in 2002. Tayshaun Prince and Rodney Stuckey played on the sophomore team in 2004 and 2009, respectively. -DetNews
Swedish rookie Jonas Jerebko has become such a fan favorite that the Pistons thought it might be a good time to cash in on Double J’s popularity. You can now pick up one of the beauties at the Palace for a $10 spot.
With Tayshaun getting closer to getting back into the fold I was wondering if there were others in the Nation who are becoming conflicted with the thought of Jerebko returning to the bench?
I just feel it makes more sense for both the first and second units for Tayshaun to back up Jerebko. Kue & co. could at least try it to see how it goes while Tay gets back into game shape.
I wouldn’t call myself a Tayshaun hater, but I don’t think he gives us what Jonas does. Quite simply I think Jerebko is hungrier and plays harder. Tay might have a slight edge on scoring the ball (when he trys) and a sizable edge when it comes to experience, but everything else goes to the Jonas.
I love the way JJ plays. He pillages and plunders like the Vikings that Palace goers dress up like in homage to the super Swede.
Double J's boosters
I hate to compare him to David Lee of the Knicks because I think it’s so corny that white players can only be compared to other white players, but that’s what I see when he’s out there. He’s scrappy and has a nose for the ball.
Well, now that I’ve gone on a pro-JJ tangent I’ll get back to the point of the post. Simply vote “Yes” or “No” as to whether you think Jonas should still start when Tayshaun gets back. If you want to back up your vote do it in the comments.
Wow – this just in: Tayshaun Prince out tonight. Just showed up with a “lower back strain” and he’s out. Consecutive games end at 496.
It’s also being reported that Prince will not make the Pistons upcoming road trip:
Prince will not travel with the team to Toronto on Wednesday or Orlando on Friday and his status will be re-evaluated on Saturday.
We still don’t know exactly when Rip will be back either. When it rains it pours. Well, time to see what those rookies have got. JONAS JEREBKO will get the start for Prince.
Prince last missed a game on April 13, 2003 – during his rookie season – against Memphis. [Fox Sports]
