It probably would have been excusable that the Pistons would be playing through a haze of emotion after learning that a couple guys they’ve been going to war with for the past four plus years had been dealt away earlier in the day. But, like the pros the Pistons are they kept it all business using a total team effort to defeat Larry Brown and the Bobcats to remain perfect on the season. {box score}
Last night’s game had pretty much had the same frame work as their previous game two nights prior.
The Pistons build a good lead to start the game off, but the Bobcats claw their way back in the second quarter to make it a two point game going into the half. Then in the third quarter the Pistons start to click again led by some inspired play Rasheed Wallace. The fourth quarter sees the Pistons pull away highlighted by the play of a member of the Pistons’ bench. Against the Wizards Walter Herrmann was the man, last night that distinction belonged to Will “The Thrill” Bynum.
In his first action of the season Will made the most of the Pistons shortened guard rotation. Will showed he could hold down the offense in the first half executing some text book high pick-and-roll action. Then in the fourth quarter Will sliced up the Charlotte defense with his cat quick moves. Will scored 10 of his 12 points in the quarter. He also dished out four dimes in his 23 minutes.
Michael Curry has a handsome luxury as a first year coach with his bench. Through the first three games we’ve seen that when called upon guys are going to step up and produce. Even guys like Herrmann and Bynum who didn’t figure to be in Curry’s regular rotation. That’s something I took note of through training camp and preseason. Walter and Will aren’t just on the team because we need warm bodies to fill roster spots. These two are players and bring a lot to a deep bench.
Another similarity to Saturday’s game was that the Pistons again took advantage of a smaller opponent winning board war 42-31.
Everyone who entered the game for the ‘Stonz scored (six in double figures). The game was capped off by Walter Sharpe’s first two NBA points. A sweet base line reverse jam.
GAME NOTES: Richard Hamilton 19 pts/5 asts … Kwame 9 boards … Rasheed received his first tech in the third … 50% shooting / 23 assists / 8 turn overs … Wraslin’ great and Charlotte native Ric “The Nature Boy” Flair took in the game courtside …

Forget Gerald Wallace (18.8 ppg) or Jason Richardson (17 ppg) the Pistons need to keep an eye on Piston killer
