Delfino still frustrates me Posted by pistonsnation at 2:59 pm

While watching a great Argentina vs. Greece matchup yesterday I remembered how much Carlos Delfino frustrates me. Carlos came into a tight game and drained big shot after big shot. He ended up with 23 points and 5 boards in 27 minutes of play as he and Manu escaped Greece by a bucket.

For three seasons I was waited for that Carlos Delfino to be the spark off the Pistons’ bench.  It never played out that way and Delfino was sent north of the border for a pair second round picks.

Throughout the broadcast Doug Collins remarked how Delfino was his “wild card”. The guy has talent, but he’s streaky and seems to have a fragile ego. A certain University of Alabama kick off returned might be so inclined to liken him to a box of chocolates because you were never quite sure what you’d get from ‘Los.

It’s a shame he never caught on here. As Collins put it, the Pistons were never all that impressed with his work ethic. He’d show flashes of brilliance but then sulk when his number wasn’t called upon on a loaded veteran team. Then inevitably he’d start talking about taking his ball and going back home.

After a pretty productive season (9pts, 4.4 rbs) coming off the bench in Toronto Delfino has joined the former NBA overseas contingent. Delfino signed a 3-year deal with BC Khimki of Russia.

We’ll get another chance to see which Carlos Delfino is gonna show up as Argentina earned themselves, by way of their win over Greece, a semifinals match up with U.S.A. tomorrow morning.

U.S. keeps eyes on prize Posted by pistonsnation at 2:15 pm

The U.S. Men’s hoops squad stayed perfect (4-0) hitting on 48% of their 3pt shots this morning in way to routing the previously unbeaten Spain 119-82.  Along with the 3pt shooting defense stood out.  USA smothered the politically incorrect Spanish team into 28 turnovers. The win puts the U.S. team one win away from being the top team in Group B which they can achieve by defeating their next opponent, Germany.

Tayshaun played 13 minutes and had 10 points (3/4 3ptrs) to go along with a steal, rebound, and an assist.
