Double J or Tay Tay?

Posted by pistonsnation

With Tayshaun getting closer to getting back into the fold I was wondering if there were others in the Nation who are becoming conflicted with the thought of Jerebko returning to the bench?

I just feel it makes more sense for both the first and second units for Tayshaun to back up Jerebko.  Kue & co. could at least try it to see how it goes while Tay gets back into game shape.

I wouldn’t call myself a Tayshaun hater, but I don’t think he gives us what Jonas does.  Quite simply I think Jerebko is hungrier and plays harder.  Tay might have a slight edge on scoring the ball (when he trys) and a sizable edge when it comes to experience, but everything else goes to the Jonas.

I love the way JJ plays.  He pillages and plunders like the Vikings that Palace goers dress up like in homage to the super Swede.

I hate to compare him to David Lee of the Knicks because I think it’s so corny that white players can only be compared to other white players, but that’s what I see when he’s out there.  He’s scrappy and has a nose for the ball.

Well, now that I’ve gone on a pro-JJ tangent I’ll get back to the point of the post.  Simply vote “Yes” or “No” as to whether you think Jonas should still start when Tayshaun gets back.  If you want to back up your vote do it in the comments.

Actually he should slide to PF and that waste of space Maxiell should be traded for a bag of stale donuts. Front court of Tay, JJ, and Big Ben would work well with Stuckey/RIP

  2. brgulker Says:

JJ’s not a PF. His natural position is SF, just as Tay’s natural position is SF.

Watch the preseason tapes, if you don’t believe me. Yes, he’s pure hustle and effort, and yes he rebounds well. But a PF he’s not. Bigger men, which PFs tend to be, dominate him.

To the issue of starting: It’s going to be a heckuva sale to bench a SF who started for a championship team for a rookie SF who’s been starting for a losing team. To me, it’s pretty simple — start the guy with the ring.

I’m not hating on JJ. I’m as big a JJ as you’ll find out there — love the way the kid plays. He’s a winner, and I hope he’s a winner in a Pistons uniform for years to come. But to start JJ would be the definition of premature.

Not to mention, if Tay is on the trading block, his value goes down the minute he’s relegated to the bench.

JJ play w/ hustle, but only hustle

  4. pistonsnation Says:

@rip32 – I think you may be sleeping a bit on Double J’s offense. He does a little of everything. He’s got a stroke, he can drive the lane, and he mixes it up on the boards.

  5. James Says:

Didn’t we all get annoyed with Joe D for trading away an established player to make way for a sophomore?
I’m not saying that benching Tay is the same as trading him, but why not give Jerebko more time to develop under Prince?
You don’t use $20 million of your cap space to come off the bench. Either you trade Prince or you start him I think it’s as simple as that.

Finally, Jerebko is showing great potential and a has a good game, but he’s not that good yet. Prince is a better scorer, passer, and defender. Give JJ time to develop.

  6. pistonsnation Says:

@James – I admit I may be going a little overboard with JJ, but I think it stems from being impressed with his work on the court coupled with being so underwhelmed with Tayshaun these last few seasons.

  7. TDP Says:

There is no comparison. Tay > Jonas.

  8. joe Says:

When prince get back start Double J at the PF, he’ll do a better job than Maxell.

  9. nwkking Says:

i think jj should come off the bench he gets alot of fouls we stink in the 3rd and 4th q thats when we need jj to scrap when the other team try to go on a run jj will slow them down him and big ben he reminds me of bill lambier/rodman type when he controls his fouls and shoot more thats when he should start he is going to be a great player
