The waiting is over, the Pistons open up the 2009-10 season tonight in Memphis. The game tips at 8:00 est from Memephis’ FedEx Forum and can be viewed locally on Fox Sports Detroit.
Grizz left unAnswered:
It would be nice if Allen Iverson (torn hamstring) was going to suit up just to make this contest a little more interesting. But, doesn’t look like that’s likely, even if Iverson himself wants to give it a go:
“They’re saying it’s a possibility, but it’s also a long shot,” Iverson said. “You know that’s one of the ones I definitely want to play.”
From 5th big man to starter:
Ben Wallace isn’t quite ready for the rocking chair just yet. He’ll be starting (along with Tay, Villanueva, Stuckey, & Rip) tonight beating out Kwame Brown and Chris Wilcox.
The Pistons plan on monitoring the 35 year old Wallace’s minutes to keep him fresh, just don’t tell that to Wallace:
“I’m ready and willing to play every game and every minute if need be,” Wallace said. “Every minute I’m on the floor, I’m going to give it my all. [Free Press]
The Pistons will still be calling on Wilcox and Brown to help counter the size of Grizzlies’ big men Marc Gasol, 7′1″, and rookie -3rd overall pick- Hasheem Thabeet, 7′3″.
D-minus two rooks:
Remember, Austin Daye and Jonas Jerebko will not be in action tonight both serving their one game “fighting” suspensions that occurred in the preseason. That leaves 10 players suited up for Detroit.
ALSO OF NOTE: The Pistons have a four game winning streak against the Grizzlies in Memphis … The Pistons are a 2 point favorite tonight … Pistons November schedule wallpaper for your desktop … World Series, Schmerld Series … Jonas Jerebko and the rest of the NBA’s foreign legion … Rip Hamilton drops the hammer on M.C. in support of Iverson, who’s still flapping his gums about his disaster season in Detroit … Ben Gordon hopes to ball for the UK … Pistons envision Atkins as a veteran leader … New era or error for Grizzlies? …

I’m very glad Ben is getting the starting nod for two reasons:
First, it tells me that our coach is committed to defense and rebounding (in other words, winning), and he’s not necessarily committed to playing the guys with the biggest contracts.
Second, Ben will help … tremendously. Anyone who watched our last preseason game will realize that. Will he be able to give that 30 minutes / game over 82 games? (He seems to think so) Time will tell.

There’s no doubt that CV is our most explosive offensive weapon in the frontcourt. But there’s also no doubt that he’s our worst frontcourt defender. I’m anxious to watch how Ben and CV balance each other’s weaknesses while on the court together — IMO, it could be a winning combination.
And you can find me tweeting about Blaha’s sure-to-be hilarious comments on Twitter. Just search for #Blaha … there’s a few of us committed to it.
I’m so anxious … can barely wait. Let’s go Pistons!

I don’t think either is good enough at their respective strength to make up for the other LOL. But, it is an intriguing “thunder & lightning” combo.
Love the #Blaha Tweet trend. You ever see the “Jarret JACK OFF” Blaha vid?
Ha, no I haven’t seen that vid. But I can imagine. …
How about CV’s defense last night? He struggled early but had a nice 2nd half on both ends.
