Best. Laimbeer. Video. EVER.
Posted by pistonsnationAside for the sports caster calling Lambs “Dollar Bill” — seriously, no one called him Dollar Bill — this video is an absolute must for PN viewing.
This video is from when when Bill hung ‘em up early in the 1993 season. Basically this vid has all the best Laimbeer footage. Lambs and Isiah fighting in practice (rare), then teammate Olden Polynice calling Lambs an asshole, all the brawls, Chuck Daly busting out with “irascible” to describe Billy, plus great excerpts from Laimbeer’s retirement presser. Gotta love the Bill Cosby sweater.
“There’s no doubt that I wear the black hat. Somebody has to play that role. It fell upon my shoulders, I can handle it, no problem.”

Excellent video indeed. Although I think it’s missing some other classic footage – my favorite being Rick Adelman, during the ‘89 finals, yelling at his team during a timeout to stop talking about Laimbeer. At the time, Bill was my favorite player. Ya gotta love anybody who could turn the emotion of 20,000 people screaming “Laimbeer sucks” into something that motivated him. I could’ve done without some of his cheapshots, but because of a few instances, I think his reputation was much worse than reality (see famous foul on Larry Bird – Rodman caused the incident, Laimbeer just grabbed on and fell on his back). He was one of the smartest players to ever play the game, extremely effective for a player who couldn’t run or jump. I think there could also be some video of him taking some brutal hits for charges and also knocking down a large # of 3’s – one of the first big men to effectively run the “pick and spot up.”
