Rip on going to the bench: “that ain’t happening”
Posted by pistonsnation
Tonight’s game in Utah will probably be the last game Rip will miss due to his groin strain, which would put his return to the hardwood Tuesday when the Pistons take on the Bobcats at the Palace.
That’ll give Michael Curry a couple days to solve his three guard dilema. If anyone was expecting Rip to go to the bench if that’s what Curry decides you thought wrong:
Hamilton, speaking informally before the game, was clearly not keen on coming off the bench. When asked what he thought would happen once he got back healthy, he said he planned on returning to the starting lineup.
“That’s the only option,” he said.
When it was suggested that coming off the bench might be another option, he said, “That ain’t happening.” -Det News
Though opinions vary on who out of Rip and AI should start the game on the bench, we can all agree this team is better with a more tradition lineup. Even if we’re only winning by the narrowest of margins, we’re still winning. Something or better yet someone is going to have to give.

nobody remembers the 04 run it was Rip got us to the finals, everybody was struggling in the Indiana series, you people from Detroit are stupid, you guys are looking for And 1 players, this guy could go to any team and win, play with other players and makes other players. He can do the same thing as AI,Wade, and so on but he plays the right way understand dummy’s I’m tired of who coming off the bench stuff he’s been the leading scorer give him some respect
January 10th, 2009 at 6:43 pmvery true steve, hamilton is a big part of the team and needs to stay in the lineup
January 10th, 2009 at 8:45 pmThis may sound stupid, but I say they BOTH should start. I mean, it’s not like AI’s never played “point guard” before. Keep in mind. This is not exactly the same “AI” from several years ago. His field goal percentage has diminished anyway and he seems to wanna pass more than shoot these days. He could be what Rondo is to the Celtics (with just more scoring). I say give him a few games at the point guard position. I GUARANTEE th team goes 3-2 after 5 games. After he’s used to it, this team WILL make noise. Here’s what the lineup should be:
C- Rasheed Wallace
PF- Amir/Antonio
SF- Tayshaun Prince
SG- Rip Hamilton
PG- “The Answer” ‘Allen Iverson’
6th- Stuckey
Stuckey can start in the future if all this doesn’t work out in the end. Peace
January 10th, 2009 at 10:16 pmI say this because, i’m just not sure AI will be as ‘effective’ coming off the bench as he would “starting”. He would just end up becoming more washed up, and would probably retire following the season WITHOUT a ring. And no one wants to see that……….
January 10th, 2009 at 10:19 pmWhy would Stuckey go back to the bench? He’s this team’s best weapon. More often than not we win when Stuckey starts.
And as for starting both Rip and AI, that’s how it started out after the trade and we saw how well that worked.
Bench them both Let Afflalo Start!
