Game #32: Lucky sevens

PISTONS (88) Clippers (87)
It took the Pistons 7 tries to get a win on the week’s 7th day, but they finally did. Extending their win streak to 7 and the Clippers losing streak to…you guessed it, 7. {box score}
You thought we had it rough with Rip and Sheed being out with injuries? You have to give it up to the Clippers. They came into the game with only 9 available players with names such as Baron Davis, Chris Kaman, and Zach Randolph out due to injuries. To make matters worse they lost Fred Jones to a sprained left foot early in the first quarter. That made eight healthy players suited up, and none of them point guards.
It came down to a game winning shot by Allen Iverson that never even went through the hoop (goal tending on L.A.’s Al Thorton). If that shot been not been called a goal tend then we’d probably be lamenting a 7/22 shooting night (18 pts) by the Answer but the win takes the sting away from that. Allen did have a team high 10 assists. I’d hoped for a more resounding win, as opposed to 14 ties and 21 lead changes, but with all things considered but I’m just happy the Pistons are off the Sunday schnide.
Rodney Stuckey continues to shine the brightest. He turned in a 24 point, 6 assist, 2 steal night. He got help from hometown boy Tayshaun Prince, 20 points 7 boards, 3 blocks. Then there was the Dice man. Antonio was questionable for the game still suffering through sore ribs. All he did was come off the Pistons bench and ripped down 15 boards. Another guy who got to the glass yesterday was Kwame Brown. Kwam had 11 boards, 7 of them offensive.
The Clippers got a big 14 point, 20 rebound double-double from Marcus Camby. Rookie guard Eric Gordon was impressive with a career high 31 points (12/12 FT). Off the bench they got 15 points from Steve Novak and 12 assists from Mardy Collins.
Yesterday’s game was my first chance to see Clipper center DeAndre Jordan. He’s a pretty impressively athletic big. I was loving the retro hightop fade with the two lines on the side. I was shocked to find out that he’s a rookie with that kind of throwback ‘do. I did a little investigation and I think someone has pulled the wool over our eyes. How can DeAndre be a rookie when I own his 1990 NBA Hoops card? I think I even seen him slap on a snap bracelet at the end of the game!?
