The Pistons (42-15) will be in Utah to take on the Jazz (36-21) Tip off is 9:00 pm est from the EnergySolutions Arena and will be televised locally on TV20

Jazz Snapshot
Home record: 24-3
Vs. East: 15-7
Last game: 2/26 (Tues) L 100-111 @ Wolves
Last 10: 7-3
Last meeting: Nov 25th Jazz (103) @ Pistons (93)

Can we please lift the Utah Jazz curse tonight? We’ve dropped five straight to them and the last time we won in Utah was November 6th, 2002. To make the task even more daunting, the Jazz at 24-3, haven’t lost at home for going on two months. Maybe that’s why, when polled by SI, NBA players listed EnergySolutions Arena as the most intimidating arena in the league (The Palace was #3). The Jazz are the only team in the league with a winning record that the Pistons have yet to beat.

The Jazz handed the Pistons their first Palace loss on the season back in November when the Deron Williams/Carlos Boozer pick-and-roll express came to town. Williams had 14 assists while Boozer had 36 points converting on an unfathomable 85% of his shots. The Jazz amassed 48 points in the paint, an inexcusable number for a defensive team like Detroit. To the Pistons credit they are a more healthy and complete team since then.

It concerns me that we can’t seem to beat the Jazz. What if we meet in the Finals! We need to just at least beat them one of these times so the fans can have confidence that we can beat them in the Finals.

Finals contenders from the West in my view:

    San Antonio
    Dallas
Phoenix - think they may slip since Shaq has slowed them down, they seem to slow to get back on defense v.s. the pistons on sunday
Utah - they are more title-contender worthy than Denver

I don’t consider the Lakers title contenders yet, they need more time to gel, they are are greatly improved but I don’t think they’ll get to the Finals this year. Whomever beats SA or or is SA loses, the west will be up for grabs.

    East title contenders

    Detroit and Boston. Enough said.

After the Gasol acquisition it seems like everyone is picking the Lakers to be there, especially after they get Bynum back.

Bynum is too young and inexperienced still in my view. More veterans are needed imo. Detroit has Amir but he’s not a starter and has plenty of veteran savvy guys he can learn from which include Rasheed, Antonio, and soon Dale Davis.

Gasol has never seen past the 1st rd of the playoffs. I expect SA to get 1st or 2nd seed when it’s all said and done. I think Phoenix are slipping. They don’t have Marion to get back on defense as I and others witnessed on Sunday. As a result, we were able to run like them and get some easy buckets. They lack all the great shooters they once had too. The solution v.s. PHX is to ware out the big fella which obviously we did. He didn’t even get back up the floor in time to defend us.
