[box score] The Pistons improved their preseason record to 2-2 beating a starless Denver Nuggets team at the Palace.
In this game, like the last two, the Pistons had a decent lead (9pts) going into the half only to have it evaporate in the second half. This time however the Pistons were able to get the W via the charity stripe. For the game they were 31-35 (88.6%).
The Nuggets were with out Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Kenyon Martin, Nene, and Eduardo Najera. That left plenty of PT for guys like Von Wafer, Bobby Jones, and Saginaw native Anthony Roberson to showcase themselves.
Rip Hamilton rolled his left ankle half way through the 3rd quarter. X-rays came back negative, but he’ll probably sit the rest of the preseason. Injuries are piling up for the Pistons, something they’ve not had to deal with much of the past few seasons. Along with Rip’s ankle there’s Amir’s ankle. Word is he’ll praticing soon so he’ll be on the same page as the team by the time the regular season starts. Nazr Mohammed’s still down with a sore calf and rookie Sammy Mejia has also joined the tweaked ankle club.
GAME NOTES:
- Tay had himself a nice stat line: 19 pts, 8 rebs, 4 blks

- Stacy Augmon is still alive! The 9th pick in the
1901 1991 draft logged 23 minutes for Denver.
QUOTES:
Chauncey on Amir’s ankle injury:
“I hate it, man. “Especially for a guy like Amir. This couldn’t be at a worse time for him. Him having to help us this year and play a significant role for us and him not having a preseason to this point, he hasn’t had a lot of game situations and is trying to find his way a little bit. That hurts. That’s going to set him back, and it’s going to hurt us as well, because we need that.”
Jarvis on playing with the first unit:
“I was pretty open,” he said. “When you are out there with Chauncey, Rip, Tay and those guys, it opens up a lot of things and I was able to knock down shots.”
Flip Saunders on preseason thus far:
“I was happy tonight. I was happy that Tay (Tayshaun Prince) got going tonight, Chauncey is being aggressive every game he’s played so far. I like how Jarvis is coming along. Sheed has played hard; he is rebounding well for us overall. This guy has dominated that position rebound-wise. He hasn’t shot the ball nearly as well as he’s going to, at least I hope so.”
