Gerald Fitch, we hardly knew ya. Posted by pistonsnation at 7:35 pm

Gerald Fitch has indeed been waived. A casualty of Joe Dumars cold roster trimming hand. Ahh, G-Fitch what could have been. Here’s a tribute your Pistons career. Those 3 minutes you played against your former team, Miami. An assist, and 1/2 from the free throw line. (it actually took me longer than 3 minutes to track down the Gerald Fitch photo)

All joking aside, good luck in your basketball odyssey Gerald.

No Free Chili! Posted by pistonsnation at 3:30 pm

Right up there with Marv Albert’s signature “YESSS!”, or Bill Walton’s “_____ is perhaps the greatest player at his position of all times”.  Second maybe to only Blaha’s “Count that baby and the foul!” is Rock’n Rick Mahorn’s “No free Chili”.  When ever there’s a highly contested cheapy down low you know what ‘Horn’s stance is!  Who cares if it’s not that great of an analogy, it’s Rick frick’n Mahorn for the love of God.  RESPECT THE CHILI!

50th anniversary jerseys (update) Posted by pistonsnation at 12:45 pm

I know this interests a lot of fans, so here’s an update from Keith Langlois’ Pistons.com mailbag:

Sarah (Ohio): I was wondering if you could tell us anything about the 50th anniversary throwback jerseys that will be worn during some games this year. What will they look like and when are they first going to be worn and when can we buy them?

Langlois: I turned your question over to Craig Turnbull, Sarah, the vice president of brand management here at Palace Sports & Entertainment. Here’s what he said: The 50th anniversary jerseys will be home whites, very similar to what the Pistons wore 50 years ago after moving to Detroit. The first wearing of those uniforms is scheduled for Dec. 7 when the Chicago Bulls come to The Palace. And they’ll be available for purchase in early December.

Looks like PN reported pretty accurately :)

Preseason Game #4 Posted by pistonsnation at 12:14 pm

Rip plays peek-a-boo with Sheed[box score] The Pistons improved their preseason record to 2-2 beating a starless Denver Nuggets team at the Palace.

In this game, like the last two, the Pistons had a decent lead (9pts) going into the half only to have it evaporate in the second half. This time however the Pistons were able to get the W via the charity stripe. For the game they were 31-35 (88.6%).

The Nuggets were with out Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Kenyon Martin, Nene, and Eduardo Najera. That left plenty of PT for guys like Von Wafer, Bobby Jones, and Saginaw native Anthony Roberson to showcase themselves.

Rip Hamilton rolled his left ankle half way through the 3rd quarter. X-rays came back negative, but he’ll probably sit the rest of the preseason. Injuries are piling up for the Pistons, something they’ve not had to deal with much of the past few seasons. Along with Rip’s ankle there’s Amir’s ankle. Word is he’ll praticing soon so he’ll be on the same page as the team by the time the regular season starts. Nazr Mohammed’s still down with a sore calf and rookie Sammy Mejia has also joined the tweaked ankle club.

GAME NOTES:

  • Tay had himself a nice stat line: 19 pts, 8 rebs, 4 blks
  • Double-Double for Mad Max, 16 pts, 11 reb.
  • Jarvis Hayes led the scoring with 24 which included 8/8 from the free throw line in 38 minutes
  • Chauncey chipped in 16 points & 4 assists
  • There’s been a Lindsey Hunter sighting, Lindsey came in for Rodney Stuckey who got into foul trouble
  • DNP’s: Mejia, Samb, Dupree, Fitch
  • We won the board battle 48-43
  • Stacy Augmon is still alive! The 9th pick in the 1901 1991 draft logged 23 minutes for Denver.

QUOTES:

Chauncey on Amir’s ankle injury:

“I hate it, man. “Especially for a guy like Amir. This couldn’t be at a worse time for him. Him having to help us this year and play a significant role for us and him not having a preseason to this point, he hasn’t had a lot of game situations and is trying to find his way a little bit. That hurts. That’s going to set him back, and it’s going to hurt us as well, because we need that.”

Jarvis on playing with the first unit:

“I was pretty open,” he said. “When you are out there with Chauncey, Rip, Tay and those guys, it opens up a lot of things and I was able to knock down shots.”

Flip Saunders on preseason thus far:

“I was happy tonight. I was happy that Tay (Tayshaun Prince) got going tonight, Chauncey is being aggressive every game he’s played so far. I like how Jarvis is coming along. Sheed has played hard; he is rebounding well for us overall. This guy has dominated that position rebound-wise. He hasn’t shot the ball nearly as well as he’s going to, at least I hope so.”
