It’s all about the small details when you’re a Pistons fan-atic. Here I’ll fanalyze our rookie backcourt’s jersey # selection.

Arron Afflalo wore #4 while at UCLA, but playing for the Pistons presents an obvious conflict in wearing that number, just ask Chauncey who wore 4 his whole career before coming to Detroit (it’s even tattooed on his arm). Arron held up a #8 jersey for the press which was the writing on the wall for Will Blalock. Arron then wore #9 in Summer League play. Along comes Jarvis Hayes who wore #24 for the Wizards, but that number can be found on the back of Mr. McDyess. Jarvis was ok with not wearing #24 because as he said it didn’t bring him much luck in D.C., so he picks #9 with the analogy of cat’s having 9 lives. So Afflalo, the rookie, gives up dibs on the number and grabs #28. By the way, the number 9 in the Piston’s typeset looks more like a lower case g than the number to me.

Rodney Stuckey’s number isn’t as involved, but still very interesting. Rodney wore #3 in college in honor of his favorite player Dwyane Wade. That explanation does nothing for me being a die hard. YOU SUCK WADE!…Sorry ’bout that. Anyhow he’ll wear number 3 as a Pistons which makes some fans uneasy because of who wore “the big red three” as Mason would call it. Myself, I’m on the fence at this point. A case can be made either way, but I believe if Stuckey continues to be as brilliant as advertised I think, sadly perhaps, the number will become more synonymous with Rodney.
