McDyess on the starting line?

Posted by pistonsnation

Nothing is etched in stone, of course. But, after talking to Flip Saunders, the plan going into training camp is to have Antonio McDyess playing power forward alongside Rasheed Wallace on the first unit.

There’s a good idea. There’s been fans calling for Dice to start for years now. Dice always says he feels more comfortable coming off the bench and that’s it’s part of his routine (apparently he’s pretty superstitious), but I have the feeling he get used to starting. Even though we’d be undersized on some occasions, but there’s a lot of upside to this idea. Plugging Dice into the 4 slot gives us so much talent and vet savvy that we should be able to jump on most teams early, taking pressure off our young reserves. If they have a cushion they should be able to let the game come to them more. This could translate into fresher legs for the vets come crunch time.

Another thing: Have you seen Sheed lately? Maybe you’ve seen him around town or at a Shock game. He has lost 25 pounds since the end of the season. He has been around the facility all summer and began working out in earnest two weeks ago. He is so skinny, Joe Dumars has taken to calling him Slim Jim. Actually, he looks thinner than he did before the 2005-2006 season, the year he was an All-Star and propelled the Pistons to 64 wins. It’s a good sign.

This is very encouraging to read. There’s been a number of times that Rasheed has fallen out of this fans personal favor. This shows me more passion than blowing up at a ref ever has. Keep it up Slim Jim.
